EDUCATION FOR PAULISTA PROGRESS: schools under the lens of the Secretary of Agriculture, Commerce and Public Shell-Work of São Paulo

Resumo: The article analyzes the presence of photographs of the Polytechnic School and the Practical School of Agriculture in the Albums of the Secretary of Agriculture, Commerce and Public Works of São Paulo (SACOP). From the perspective of new cultural history, he studies the representations produced by these images in three dimensions. Firstly, the article describes SACOP's albums to circumscribe a general perspective of interpretation. Afterwards, the focus on the schools whose photographs predominate in the Albums aims to show the relevance of technical preparation in the areas of agriculture, engineering and arts and crafts in SACOP's vision of progress. Finally, it explores the images of the Practical School of Agriculture “Luiz de Queiroz” and the Polytechnic School, their composition and meaning in the SACOP Albums to interrogate the intelligibility of the series of photographs of these schools.
