Forming and developing collections, perspectives of the 21st century database on Brapci

The information service units must have explicit policies and plans for the formation and development of collections as a discipline that intends to subsidize knowledge. And Collection Planning and Development is a fundamental part of a policy. In this way, the objective of the research is to situate some metric indicators on the 'development of collections' in the area of ​​Information Science. By means of metrics, an exploratory and bibliometric research is located in the Brapci Database. The analysis exposes: i) the temporal production in the two decades of the 21st century; ii) the most fruitful periodicals; iii) the most productive researchers. The result guides the indexing of 177 articles and points out as the main publication vehicles the Revista RBBD with 16 articles and, with 12 documentary items, the Revista ACB and the RDBCI. It is concluded that this theme is essential to the collection of public and private libraries; in short, it appears that developing the collection is strategic, which lacks a continuous and systematic process of listening to the wishes of institutions and interactants.
