Resumo: The research addresses the role of the mediating librarian in the fight against fake news and misinformation. It addresses the terms dissemination of information, information literacy and fake news through concepts, based on bibliographical studies by specialists in the area of ​​Librarianship and Information Science. The objective of the research was to emphasize the importance of this professional as a mediator of information in the fight against false news, explained by the relevant literature, whichconsists of identifying the role of the librarian as mediator of information in social responsibility and ethical commitment to users. by presenting information literacy in library spaces as a tool for critical analysis of information. The work is descriptive and explanatory, bibliographical and documental in nature, with a qualitative approach. In the analysis and discussion of the results, information literacy emerges as an action that can be promoted by the librarian in the fight against fake news and misinformation. In its final considerations, the research reinforces the important contribution of the librarian-mediator in the fight against false news, by promoting practices involving information literacy in the spaces in which it operates, whether through lectures, workshops or community services, with a view to to minimize misinformation in today's society.

Aborda por meio de conceitos os termos disseminação da informação, letramento informacional e das fake news, a partir de estudos bibliográficos de especialistas na área da Biblioteconomia e Ciência da Informação. O objetivo da pesquisa foi ressaltar a importância desse profissional como mediador da informação no combate das notícias falsas, explicado pela literatura pertinente, onde consiste em identificar o papel do bibliotecário-mediador da informação na responsabilidade social e comprometimento ético com os usuários ao apresentar o letramento informacional nos espaços das bibliotecas como ferramenta de análise crítica da informação. O trabalho é do tipo descritivo e explicativo, de caráter bibliográfico e documental, com abordagem qualitativa. Na análise e discussão dos resultados, o letramento informacional aparece como uma ação que pode ser promovida pelo bibliotecário no combate às fake news e à desinformação.
