The fashion collections bring together clothing and other objects being characterized as special collections that need of specific descriptive treatment. The objective is to know and to evaluate the representation and description forms of a collection of clothing, in order to assist professionals in their organization. About the methodology, it is a bibliographic and exploratory research, which had as its empirical field the collection of the Zuzu Angel Institute. It performs simulation of description using the MARC and AACR2r standards for the cataloging of a piece from the collection - the Political Protest Dress, used by the stylist in a fashion show held in 1971 in New York. It concludes that clothing accompanying the evolution of humanity; are records that express social, cultural, political and economic values, forms of power and social distinction, but also of information, resistance and denunciation.
