Resumo: | This current study had as purpose to investigate which is the knowledge the students on the third year of high school had about the cancer and its forms of prevention. The data to the analysis were obtained trough questionnaires with five open answers applied in a state school from Santa Maria, before and after the expository class about “cancer and the forms of prevention” taught by the pharmaceutical professional. The qualitative analysis of the dates identified definitions and concepts regarding to disease and its ways of prevention. The positioning about what is understanding as a cancer and how to prevents it showed highly conceptions influenced by media, however often devoid of scientific knowledge experienced in the scholastic context. Presuppose that the way how the education is organized and developed, do not contribute expressively to this student can develops comprehension and application of these principles to a better qualification for their existences. |

Los datos para análisis habían sido obtenidos mediante cuestionarios, constando de 5 cuestiones abiertas aplicadas en un colegio provincial de Santa Maria, antes y tras la clase expositiva sobre “cáncer y las formas de prevención”, ministrada por una farmacéutica. El análisis cualitativa de los datos permitió identificar definiciones y conceptos en relación a la enfermedad y sus formas de prevención. Los posicionamientos sobre lo que es comprendido como cáncer y como prevenirlo reveló la presencia de concepciones grandemente influenciadas por los médios de comunicación social, sin embargo muchas veces destituidas de saber científico vivido en el contexto escolar. Conjeturamos de que el modo como la enseñanza en las escuelas está organizado y desarrollado, no contribuye de forma significativa para que ese alumno pueda desarrollar comprensión y aplicación de esos principios para mejor cualifiquen sus existencias.O presente estudo teve como objetivo investigar quais conhecimentos os alunos de terceiro ano do ensino médio tinham sobre o câncer e suas formas de prevenção. Os dados para análise foram obtidos por meio de questionários, constando de 5 questões abertas aplicadas em um colégio estadual de Santa Maria, antes e após a aula expositiva sobre “câncer e as formas de prevenção, ministrada por uma farmacêutica. A análise qualitativa dos dados permitiu identificar definições e conceitos em relação à doença e as suas formas de prevenção. Os posicionamentos sobre o que é compreendido como câncer e como preveni-lo revelou a presença de concepções grandemente influenciadas pelas mídias, porém muitas vezes destituídas de saber cientifico vivenciado no contexto escolar.
