Resumo: The parasitic contamination of Laranjal Beach (Laguna dos Patos) in Pelotas was assessed through the analysis of 470 fecal and 920 sand samples. Results showed that 54.3% and 9.5%, respectively, were positive. The former contained hookworm eggs and protozoan oocysts whereas the latter contained protozoan oocysts and Toxocara spp. and Ascaris spp. eggs. Therefore, results suggest that there is risk of contamination with some zoonoses in this environment.
