Study of maritime diesel engines using oil analysis and reliability engineering

Resumo: This work presents the comparison of the operational performance of the main diesel marine engines of vessels which support offshore oil platforms, using data from the engine components’ wear. These data were obtained through a predictive analysis of the lubricants in use in these engines and through statistical methodology on the failure behavior related to their lifetime. First, the study of the lubricants analysis results was done, classifying them according to their behavior, origin and wear level and obtaining the distribution parameters of failure-time for two-stroke and four-stroke diesel engines. After this step, the modeling engine was done using the Weibull distribution, using the Blocks Diagram Technique, determining the behavior of failure-time of each subsystem, and subsequently, of the equipment, obtaining the corresponding distribution parameters. With this information, time intervals corresponding to a required reliability level and mean time among failures were determined, obtaining a great range for interventions in preventive and predictive maintenance on equipment.

Primeiramente efetuou-se o estudo dos resultados das análises dos lubrificantes em uso nos motores, classificando-os de acordo com o comportamento, origem e nível de desgaste dos mesmos, e assim obtendo as distribuições de probabilidade dos tempos de falhas da vida para os motores dois-tempos e quatro-tempos. Após esta etapa, realizou-se a modelagem dos motores, utilizando Distribuição de Weibull, em função de seus principais componentes, utilizando a técnica de Diagrama de Blocos.
