Resumo: The Rio Grande has been receiving a lot of investments in the port sector, what attracts a number of industries to the region. It currently has four companies of fertilizers and one oil refinery that emitting tons of pollution every day in the air and water. Despite that, they do not change the city’s air quality which, according to the body responsible for measurements, is considered good. However, we suspect that the population is sensitive to the impacts of pollution and this is not reflected in the meter for this to be in an unsafe location. Therefore, the objective was to measure the population's perception of the Rio Grande in relation to pollution and see if it affects your well being. Moreover, the location of the meter was evaluated. Thus, we used the method of deductive approach, descriptive and field research, with a concentration in Pillet and Seeliger, among others. The results show that 68% of the population perceives the pollution. In the hot spot, this rises to 80% and drops to 40% off. Therefore, the population feels at least a discomfort arising from pollution, ie, a negative change in their welfare. Concerning the meter, we suggest that it be transferred into the hot spot.

Concerning the meter, we suggest that it be transferred into the hot spot. Universidade Federal do Rio Grande, FURG.
