Structural characterization of the fruit Dasyphyllum brasiliense (Spreng) Cabrera (Barnadesioideae, Asteraceae) with evolutionary considerations

Resumo: The aim of this work consists in structurally describing the Dasyphyllum brasiliense fruit (Spreng) Cabrera, to better understand the family through its morphological characters. Both the cellular and tissue structure of mature cypselae were analyzed using plant microtechnique and light microscopy. The cypselae of D. brasiliense presents plumy pappus, composed of sclerified bristles with non-glandular and glandular trichomes. The fruit has pericarp and seed coat with a parenchymatic structure. The embryo is cotyledonary and spatulate. The structuralcharacterization of Barnadesioideae species is a basic requirement for the comprehension of the morphological evolution of Asteraceae where, for instance, the parenchymatic structure of the pericarp and of the seed coat is typical only of Barnadesioideae. The different sclerification patterns, for pericarp and seed coat, are important structural features for taxonomic considerations in the family.

Cabrera, para melhor compreender Asteraceae através de seus caracteres morfológicos. Foi analisada a estrutura celular e tissular de cipselas maduras através de microscopia e microtécnica vegetal. As cipselas de D. brasiliense apresentam pápus plumoso, composto por cerdas esclerificadas com tricomas não glandulares e glandulares. Os frutos possuem pericarpo e testa com estrutura parenquimática. O embrião é cotiledonar e espatulado. A caracterização estrutural de espécies de Barnadesioideae é requisito básico para compreensão da evolução morfológica em Asteraceae onde, por exemplo, a estrutura parenquimática do pericarpo e da testa é típica apenas em Barnadesioideae. Os diferentes padrões de esclerificação, para pericarpo e testa, são características estruturais importantes em considerações taxonômicas na família.Iheringia.
