Resumo: In southern Brazil the genus Neidium Pftzer has only been studied in fl oristic surveys, with little information and illustrations about the taxa that occur in lentic environments. We present the morphological, morphometric and structural features of three species [N. ampliatum (Ehrenberg) Krammer, N. iridis (Ehrenberg) Cleve. var. iridis and N. siveri Lange-Bertalot & Metzeltin] found in swamp and lake located in the northeastern region of Patos Lagoon, between the coordinates 30°10’- 30°40’ S and 50°30’ - 51°30’ W; 30º14’ - 30º30’ S and 50º33’ - 50º39’ W. The study was based on analysis of samples collected in plankton and metaphyton in the fall and spring of 2003, in pelagic and/or littoral waters bodies. Morphometric differences were found in N. iridis var. iridis and N. siveri compared to specimens from other countries in America and Europe. This is the fi rst record of N. siveri for Brazil and its structure in scanning electron microscopy are reported herein.

Iheringia.
