Resumo: The Cavaleiros’s rocky seashore is located in Macaé city, at the northern most coast of Rio de Janeiro State (22°24’17’’S and 41°47’42’’W). This region is influenced by the warm Brazilian Current and cold water from the South Atlantic Central Water (SACW) at the upwelling period. One hundred and eighteen taxa of the macroalgae were identified: 19 Chlorophyta, 21 Ochrophyta and 76 Rhodophyta. The genera Caulacanthus sp and Osmundaria sp. possibly aretwo new occurences for the Brazilian waters. The studied area presents high richness with tropical and eventually warm-temperate affinities reflecting the ecological specificity of the studied area. For this reason this ecosystem must be preserved.

Um total de 118 taxa de macroalgas foi identificado, compreendendo 19 Chlorophyta, 21 Ochrophyta e 76 Rhodophyta. Os gêneros Caulacanthus sp. e Osmundaria sp. possivelmente constituem duas novas ocorrências para as águas brasileiras. O local apresenta uma alta riqueza em espécies de afinidade tropical e, eventualmente temperada-quente, refletindo a especificidade ecológica da área estudada, cuja vegetação algácea deve ser preservada.Iheringia.
