Resumo: | The term Urinary Incontinence is used to describe the unintentional and involuntary loss of urine through an intact urethra, with any effort, without the contraction of the smooth bladder musculature, being a common condition in the female population. This condition is a typical problem that can affect women of all ages, and the main health-related consequences include urinary tract infections, an increased risk of falls and fractures, skin maceration, wound formation, hygiene issues, as well as an impact on sexual life, household chores, and work. These ramifications cause discomfort, embarrassment, a decrease in self-confidence, and have a negative effect on the health of many women, in addition to representing a serious public health issue. Objective: To analyze the relationship between the pelvic floor muscle (MAP) and urinary incontinence and to present physiotherapeutic treatment and its protocols.Methodology: Quantitative and qualitative bibliographic review using books and articles found on Google Scholar, PubMed, and SciELO using the keywords "physiotherapy," "pelvic floor," "MAP," "urinary incontinence," and "protocols."Results: It is concluded that the pelvic floor muscle (MAP) has an absolute relationship with urinary incontinence, potentially causing various social and physiological factors in women's health. However, physiotherapy plays an important role in functional rehabilitation, although there is still a need for greater knowledge on how to prevent and treat it. |

PELVIC FLOOR AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH URINARY INCONTINENCE: CAUSE AND PHYSIOTHERAPEUTIC TREATMENTASSOALHO PÉLVICO E SUA RELAÇÃO COM A INCONTINÊNCIA URINARIA: CAUSA E TRATAMENTO FISIOTERAPÊUTICOFisioterapia, assoalho pélvico, MAP, incontinência urinaria, protocolos.Physiotherapy, pelvic floor, MAP, urinary incontinence, protocols. The term Urinary Incontinence is used to describe the unintentional and involuntary loss of urine through an intact urethra, with any effort, without the contraction of the smooth bladder musculature, being a common condition in the female population. However, physiotherapy plays an important role in functional rehabilitation, although there is still a need for greater knowledge on how to prevent and treat it.A expressão Incontinência Urinária é usada para descrever a perda não intencional e involuntária de urina através da uretra intacta, a qualquer esforço, sem que haja a contração da musculatura lisa da bexiga, sendo uma situação frequente na população feminina.
