Resumo: Introduction: Leprosy is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae, known as Hansen's bacillus. A historical disease, not yet eradicated, which, when left untreated, can compromise the skin, nerves and other organs, even causing deformities and disabilities. Its treatment is carried out by polychemotherapy, in addition to monitoring the treatment of damage caused to the nerves and through its diagnosis and classification indicated by the WHO as paucibacillary or multibacillary. Objectives: To epidemiologically analyze leprosy in the Northeast Region of Brazil from 2012 to 2022. Methodology: Retrospective descriptive study using data from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (Sinan)/Datasus, about Leprosy, referring to the years 2012 to 2022. Results and Conclusion: The results found demonstrate a high rate of cases notified in the Northeast Region of Brazil, notably the State of Maranhão with a percentage of 27.81%, concluding that the Northeast Region of Brazil is evidenced by the endemic condition of the disease, requiring a study on the factors that suggest this picture, as well as Public Policies that solve the problems encountered and prevent the spread of this disease..

Specialized Dentistry Group2023-06-15info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/29810.36557/2674-8169.2023v5n3p472-489Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 No. 3 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 472-489Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 Núm. 3 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 472-489Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; v. 5 n. 3 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 472-4892674-8169reponame:Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciencesinstname:Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)instacron:GOEporhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/298/380Copyright (c) 2023 Larah Maria Assis de Moura Castro , Laercio Pol Fachin https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessAssis de Moura Castro , Larah MariaPol Fachin , Laercio2023-06-15T21:32:21Zoai:ojs.bjihs.emnuvens.com.br:article/298Revistahttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihsONGhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/oaijournal.bjihs@periodicosbrasil.com.br2674-81692674-8169opendoar:2023-06-15T21:32:21Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences - Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)false
