Resumo: Objective: To analyze the epidemiology of congenital syphilis cases in the Northeast region of Brazil, from 2017 to 2021. Methodology: This is a descriptive and quantitative study based on data collected from the Departamento de Informática do Sistema Único de Saúde (DATASUS). The analysis was based on the confirmed numbers of congenital syphilis cases in the Northeast region between 2017 and 2021. Results: A total of 30,958 cases of congenital syphilis were registered in the Northeast region, with the highest number in the state of Pernambuco (27.4%), and diagnoses made within six days after birth (96.2%). Conclusion: The study concludes that vertical transmission of syphilis in the Northeast region is high, and its main cause is the fragility of maternal and child care services.
