Resumo: Molar-Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) is an enamel development defect that affects children and adolescents, impacting their oral health and quality of life. The objective of this work was to survey concepts, nomenclatures and definitions about HMI in the literature. Various nomenclatures are used to refer to this pathological change, which in terms of scientific communication can delay discussions and solutions of clinical cases. It is also possible to notice the comprehensiveness of the clinical classification criteria, differential diagnosis, very comprehensive epidemiological distribution, in addition to the important impact on the quality of life of patients, as its pathogenesis can include painful symptoms, sensitivity and tooth fractures according to the severity of the disease. case. Prevention is crucial for preserving and maintaining the oral health of people who have molar-incisor hypomineralization. An early approach, associated with the knowledge and ongoing education of the dental team, in addition to, of course, a consensus on terminologies can contribute to improving the quality of life of people living with MIH.
