Resumo: The control of anxiety in dentistry becomes essential for the care of patients who may have some trauma or fear. Currently, there are a plethora of options when it comes to anxiety control. Two very widely used are benzodiazepines and nitrous oxide. The former are drugs commonly used to control anxiety in adults, however, they are cautiously indicated for treatment in children. Nitrous oxide, a gas that has little solubility in the blood, is highly indicated because it is not absorbed and, consequently, released soon after its administration via breathing. However, even with the ease of indication for children, this technique involves specific apparatus, as well as adequate training, which turns into its main disadvantages. In conclusion, it was observed that nitrous oxide is a safer, albeit more expensive, method, while benzodiazepines, although less safe, are more accessible to the majority of the population.

Specialized Dentistry Group2023-07-16info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/35510.36557/2674-8169.2023v5n3p1081-1093Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 No. 3 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 1081-1093Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 Núm. 3 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 1081-1093Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; v. 5 n. 3 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 1081-10932674-8169reponame:Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciencesinstname:Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)instacron:GOEporhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/355/424Copyright (c) 2023 Ricardo Militão de Lima, Renilson Militão da Silva, Renata Kelly de Lima e Silva, Raimunda Florêncio de Limahttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessde Lima, Ricardo Militãoda Silva, Renilson MilitãoLima e Silva, Renata Kelly dede Lima, Raimunda Florêncio2023-07-16T17:52:09Zoai:ojs.bjihs.emnuvens.com.br:article/355Revistahttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihsONGhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/oaijournal.bjihs@periodicosbrasil.com.br2674-81692674-8169opendoar:2023-07-16T17:52:09Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences - Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)false
