Traumatic fibroma in oral cavity: Report of two cases

Introduction: The oral mucosa is an area that regularly undergoes different types of trauma that can trigger harm to the oral cavity such as oral lesions, such as traumatic oral fibroma (TOF) is one of these lesions. Objective: The objective of this study is to report two cases of TOF in different areas of the mouth and to evaluate the etiological factors of the lesions. Case Report: In the first case, a female patient, 48 years old, non-smoker and without systemic alterations, had the main complaint of a “hard lump in the cheek”. In the second case, a female patient, 20 years old, non-smoker and without systemic alterations, had the main complaint of a “hard lump on the tongue”. In both cases the lesions had similar aspects such as fibrous lesion, painless pink color, firm consistency and sessile insertion, however the incidence areas were different, in the first case it was in the right cheek mucosa and in the second in the lingual belly. The age difference was a different etiological factor between the cases, with chronic trauma being the main factor in both cases. Then, in both cases, after the preoperative exams, local anesthesia was performed in the areas, surgical excision, histopathological examination of the lesion, suturing and, as a result of the histopathological examination, TOF was found. Conclusion: In view of the above, we found that the clinical results reported in this study indicated an excellent clinical result after surgical excision in both cases, with no signs of recurrence until the present clinical follow-up.
