Due to the high prevalence of trauma to the primary dentition in preschool age, it is essential to inform parents and guardians how to act immediately in cases of dental trauma, which is essential for the success of the treatment. The present work aims to review the literature on the importance of health promotion and education on trauma to the primary dentition. This is a narrative review of literature of an applied nature, with a qualitative, exploratory and bibliographic approach, in which works in Portuguese and English from the last 10 years (2013-2023) were selected. Searches for scientific articles, course completion work, dissertations and books were carried out online in the Pubmed and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases. It is concluded that it is essential that parents or guardians present knowledge about the importance of treating primary dental trauma, as its success may be related to measures carried out immediately after the accident. The lack of this prior knowledge on the part of parents or guardians contributes to an increase in sequelae. Therefore, health promotion and education actions are extremely important to disseminate information in order to guide parents in the face of dental trauma.
