Resumo: Introduction: Bariatric surgery is one of the most effective treatments for weight loss. However, after 24 months of surgery, the prevalence of patients who regain weight is high. Objective: To evaluate whether the lack of nutritional monitoring is one of the factors that interfere with weight regain in patients undergoing Gastric Bypass ten years after surgery. Methods: Longitudinal, retrospective study, with medical records of patients undergoing Gastric Bypass, in the General Surgery Service of the Hospital das Clínicas of the Federal University of Pernambuco. Sociodemographic variables, associated comorbidities, nutritional monitoring and physical activity were collected. In the anthropometric assessment, pre-surgical weight was verified, after 24 months and 10 years of surgery. The data was stored in an Excel database. Percentage frequencies, mean and standard deviation were performed and the Chi-square, Fisher and Student's t tests were used, considering findings significant when p < 0.05. Results: 41 medical records were evaluated, 78% of which were women with a mean age of 46.27 ± 7.78 years. Weight regain was present in 70.7% of patients. There was no statistical significance when associating weight regain with periodic nutritional monitoring, sex and physical activity. A lower average weight was observed in patients followed by a nutritionist 24 months after surgery (p = 0.041). Conclusion: Periodic nutritional monitoring promotes more satisfactory results in maintaining weight loss.
