Resumo: HPV can be considered a sexually transmitted infection that is present worldwide. Its persistent infection can lead to cervical cancer. It is important to highlight that among the types of HPV, 16 and 18 are the most associated with cancer worldwide. Associated factors include smoking, multiparity, early onset of sexual activity, lack of condom use and, mainly, frequent infections of oncogenic HPV genotypes. Final considerations: HPV is a virus that, without adequate treatment and early diagnosis, can lead to cervical cancer. Being the cancer that predominates in the northern region of Brazil due to factors that favor its delegation.
