Bariatric surgery is an effective procedure for the treatment of severe obesity, resulting in significant weight loss and improvement of associated comorbidities. However, some patients may develop psychological disorders after surgery, such as depression, anxiety, and eating disorders. These disorders can arise as a dysfunctional response to the weight loss process and changes in post-operative lifestyle. Proper management of these disorders requires a multidisciplinary approach, involving regular psychological monitoring, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and, in some cases, the use of psychotropic medications. A careful and individualized assessment of each patient is essential to identify and treat any psychological problems that may arise after bariatric surgery, aiming to promote successful recovery and improve long-term quality of life.
