Resumo: | Dentin hypersensitivity represents an acute, short-lasting pain resulting from exposure of dentin to thermal, evaporative, tactile, osmotic or chemical stimuli. Several methods are used to treat dentine hypersensitivity, including the use of dentifrices and desensitizing agents for professional use. Recently, low-power lasers, which have anti-inflammatory, analgesic, biomodulatory and antimicrobial effects, as well as bactericidal agents such as glutaraldehyde, have been used to reduce patient sensitivity. Therefore, this work aimed to search the scientific literature for the association of the two methods mentioned above to obtain a treatment option for dentin hypersensitivity. The databases used for this research were PubMed (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/) and SciELO (https://www.scielo.br/). The searches were carried out using the following keywords “Noncarious cervical lesions”, “Dentin hypersensitivity”, “Glutaraldehyde”, “Low power laser” and “Gluma”, from 2015 to 2023. The results obtained based on 23 selected articles showed that the use of low-power laser, associated with glutaraldehyde, represents a non-invasive approach, and can significantly reduce dentin hypersensitivity. The laser acts on the pulp tissue, promoting the depolarization of nerve fibers, increasing the pain threshold. Glutardialdehyde reacts with serum albumin in dentinal fluid by coagulation, thus neutralizing the hydrodynamic mechanism of dentin hypersensitivity. After reviewing the literature, it was concluded that the association between glutaraldehyde and laser represents a low-cost treatment and appears to be equally effective in relieving dentin hypersensitivity. |

After reviewing the literature, it was concluded that the association between glutaraldehyde and laser represents a low-cost treatment and appears to be equally effective in relieving dentin hypersensitivity. Specialized Dentistry Group2024-02-27info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/154010.36557/2674-8169.2024v6n2p2230-2240Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 6 No. 2 (2024): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 2230-2240Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 6 Núm. 2 (2024): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 2230-2240Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; v. 6 n. 2 (2024): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 2230-22402674-8169reponame:Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciencesinstname:Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)instacron:GOEporhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/1540/1737Copyright (c) 2024 Igor Freitas De Melo Montes, Maria Gabriela Leonel Batista, Vinicius Rangel Geraldo-Martinshttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessFreitas De Melo Montes, IgorLeonel Batista, Maria GabrielaRangel Geraldo-Martins, Vinicius2024-02-27T20:16:16Zoai:ojs.bjihs.emnuvens.com.br:article/1540Revistahttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihsONGhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/oaijournal.bjihs@periodicosbrasil.com.br2674-81692674-8169opendoar:2024-02-27T20:16:16Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences - Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)false |
