Resumo: Notably, forensic genetics is growing in the scientific field throughout the world. The molecular biology techniques used in the analysis of criminal traces are extremely sensitive and allow genetic profiles of individuals to be obtained based on the analysis of DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) polymorphisms. The present work aimed to carry out an updated study on the importance of the human identification process in solving criminal cases using genetic profiles registered in the CODIS Database (Combined DNA Index System) and RIBPG (Integrated Network of Genetic Profile Banks). The research was bibliographic and documentary, with qualitative and quantitative variables found on virtual platforms, websites, and highly reputed books in the area. The data presented demonstrate that identification by analysis of microsatellites and SNPs (Single-Nucleotide Polymorphisms) in criminal investigation is supported by Cutting-edge technology, such as DNA isolation, PCR, and capillary electrophoresis. Furthermore, genetic profile banks are a valuable tool for criminal investigation and public security in the Brazilian justice system.

Furthermore, genetic profile banks are a valuable tool for criminal investigation and public security in the Brazilian justice system. Specialized Dentistry Group2024-01-11info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/122010.36557/2674-8169.2024v6n1p805-828Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 6 No. 1 (2024): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 805-828Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 6 Núm. 1 (2024): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 805-828Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; v. 6 n. 1 (2024): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 805-8282674-8169reponame:Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciencesinstname:Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)instacron:GOEporhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/1220/1409Copyright (c) 2024 Mayara Cristina Lemos, Caroline Cardozo Gasparinhttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessCristina Lemos, MayaraCardozo Gasparin, Caroline2024-01-11T16:47:04Zoai:ojs.bjihs.emnuvens.com.br:article/1220Revistahttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihsONGhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/oaijournal.bjihs@periodicosbrasil.com.br2674-81692674-8169opendoar:2024-01-11T16:47:04Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences - Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)false
