Resumo: | Introduction: Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a mental condition characterized by instability in relationships, self-image, and impulsivity. Symptoms include fear of abandonment, emotional instability, and chronic emptiness. The etiology is multifactorial, with genetic, biological, and environmental factors influencing. BPD is classified in the DSM-5 as a Cluster B personality disorder, being more prevalent in women and clinical settings. Objective: To analyze therapeutic options and advances in the treatment of BPD. Methodology: An exploratory literature review was conducted, covering articles published between 2019 and 2024 in various databases. Selection criteria were applied to ensure study quality. After collaborative analysis of the documents, 27 relevant articles stood out. Results and Discussion: Therapeutic options for BPD include both non-pharmacological approaches, such as CBT and DBT, and pharmacological ones, such as antidepressants and mood stabilizers. Promising strategies, such as the use of oxytocin receptor antagonists and mentalization-focused therapy, are being explored. Ongoing research in these areas can substantially improve BPD management. Conclusion: Early diagnosis and understanding of BPD are essential for providing effective treatment and reducing associated stigma. Promoting a culture of research and innovation is crucial for developing more effective therapies. By combining therapeutic interventions and scientific advances, we can offer hope and support to people affected by BPD. |
