Resumo: | Cystic fibrosis, a hereditary genetic disease, manifests as a chronic condition predominantly affecting the respiratory system. The accumulation of thick mucus in the lungs leads to progressive damage, compromising pulmonary function over time. For patients in advanced stages of the disease, lung transplantation emerges as a vital alternative, offering hope for a substantial improvement in quality of life and respiratory capacity. Lung transplantation, as a surgical intervention, represents a crucial approach to addressing challenges arising from cystic fibrosis. While promising, this procedure requires careful evaluation of selection criteria, considering the severity of the patient's condition and other medical factors. The complexity of the surgery underscores the importance of a specialized multidisciplinary team to ensure the success of the procedure and post-transplant adaptation. The emphasis on respiratory function as a pivotal indicator of post-transplant success highlights the importance of continuous monitoring. Clinical studies have demonstrated significant improvements in lung capacity and quality of life after transplantation, underscoring the positive benefits this approach offers to patients with advanced cystic fibrosis. However, challenges such as rejection and postoperative infections are crucial aspects to be considered during post-transplant follow-up. In conclusion, this article seeks to explore the relevance of lung transplantation surgery as an effective therapeutic option for patients with advanced cystic fibrosis. By examining selection criteria, associated challenges, and benefits observed in respiratory function and longevity, the ongoing need for research and clinical development is emphasized to enhance the effectiveness and accessibility of this treatment modality, aiming to improve the quality of life for these patients. |

Specialized Dentistry Group2023-12-09info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/101910.36557/2674-8169.2023v5n5p5000-5013Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 No. 5 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 5000-5013Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 Núm. 5 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 5000-5013Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; v. 5 n. 5 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 5000-50132674-8169reponame:Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciencesinstname:Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)instacron:GOEporhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/1019/1186Copyright (c) 2023 Isabelly Menegueli Rufino , Samira Rodrigues Danjo , Isabela Milanez Scantamburlo , Anna Gabriella Venâncio Neves de Moraes Tosta, Maria Clara Torres Rosa, Kauane Barreto , Bruna Camargo Hirsch , Henrique Luchi Roldi, Laura Geissler Schmitt, Eric Contadini Veiga, Marilia Figueiredo Moisés , Giulia Zanfelice Koutras https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessMenegueli Rufino , Isabelly Rodrigues Danjo , SamiraMilanez Scantamburlo , IsabelaVenâncio Neves de Moraes Tosta, Anna GabriellaTorres Rosa, Maria Clara Barreto , KauaneCamargo Hirsch , BrunaLuchi Roldi, HenriqueGeissler Schmitt, LauraContadini Veiga, Eric Figueiredo Moisés , MariliaZanfelice Koutras , Giulia2023-12-09T22:08:36Zoai:ojs.bjihs.emnuvens.com.br:article/1019Revistahttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihsONGhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/oaijournal.bjihs@periodicosbrasil.com.br2674-81692674-8169opendoar:2023-12-09T22:08:36Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences - Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)false |
