IN-OFFICE DENTAL WHITENING: STUDY OF TOOTH DARKENING FACTORS AND COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF CHEMICAL AGENTS USED IN THE OFFICE PROCEDURE – LITERATURE REVIEW

Resumo: The smile plays a crucial role in how we present ourselves to society, exerting influence on self-esteem and self-confidence. Among the most sought-after dental services, teeth whitening stands out as one of the most requested, as tooth discoloration is a common complaint among patients. Research sources from the bibliographic databases RevOdonto, Revista FT, Google Scholar, SCIELO, and BVS - Virtual Health Library were utilized. The search indicators were: 'In-Office Teeth Whitening,' 'Carbamide Peroxide,' and 'Hydrogen Peroxide.' Accurate diagnosis for an effective whitening treatment is of utmost importance; therefore, it is necessary to understand the etiology of dental discoloration, as well as the whitening agents and the chemistry behind the whitening process. Finally, it was observed that carbamide peroxide is the safest choice and has a lower risk of dentin hypersensitivity compared to hydrogen peroxide

Entre os serviços odontológicos mais procurados, o clareamento dental desponta como um dos mais requisitados, visto que o escurecimento dos dentes é uma queixa comum entre os pacientes. Utilizou-se as fontes de pesquisa bibliográficas das bases de dados RevOdonto, Revista FT, Google Acadêmico, SCIELO e BVS – Biblioteca Virtual De Saúde. Os indicadores de busca foram: “Clareamento Dental de consultório”, “Peróxido de Carbamida”, “Peróxido de Hidrogênio”. O correto diagnóstico para um tratamento clareador eficaz, é de extrema importância, por isso, é necessário conhecer a etiologia do escurecimento dentário, como também os agentes clareadores e a química que existe por trás do clareamento.
