Resumo:   This study carried out an integrative review of the literature with the objective of analyzing the risk factors associated with the development of cataracts in patients with diabetes mellitus. Cataracts are one of the leading causes of preventable blindness worldwide, and their prevalence is significantly higher in individuals with diabetes. The methodology involved a systematic search for studies in the main academic databases, considering inclusion criteria related to specific risk factors in patients with diabetes. Factors such as age, duration of diabetes, glycemic control, presence of microvascular complications and genetics were analyzed. Final considerations highlight the complexity of this relationship between diabetes and cataracts, with multiple risk factors interacting to increase susceptibility to the disease. Understanding these factors is essential for the prevention, early diagnosis and adequate treatment of cataracts in diabetic patients. This highlights the importance of multidisciplinary approaches and targeted prevention strategies to mitigate the impact of cataracts in this high-risk population.

Specialized Dentistry Group2023-10-07info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/65310.36557/2674-8169.2023v5n5p610-617Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 No. 5 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 610-617Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 Núm. 5 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 610-617Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; v. 5 n. 5 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 610-6172674-8169reponame:Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciencesinstname:Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)instacron:GOEporhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/653/781Copyright (c) 2023 José Henrique Furquim Zanella, Roberto Spadoni Campigotto, Breno Magalhães Sousa, Felipe Miranda dos Santos Martins, Gabriel de Almeida Bragahttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessZanella, José Henrique FurquimCampigotto, Roberto SpadoniSousa, Breno MagalhãesMartins, Felipe Miranda dos SantosBraga, Gabriel de Almeida2023-10-07T20:50:03Zoai:ojs.bjihs.emnuvens.com.br:article/653Revistahttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihsONGhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/oaijournal.bjihs@periodicosbrasil.com.br2674-81692674-8169opendoar:2023-10-07T20:50:03Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences - Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)false
