Paixões, Medo e Teoria Política em Hobbes e Montesquieu

O artigo analisa o medo como elemento fundamental do pensamento político de Hobbes e Montesquieu. Se o medo é usado como uma ferramenta para obter poder político, se é alçado como o grande afeto agregado em torno dos políticos e dos "novos" movimentos sociais, é fundamental compreender a relação entre teoria política e medo. Os objetivos do texto são: apresentar as concepções políticas de Hobbes e Montesquieu e qual o papel do medo em suas respectivas construções teórico-políticas, à luz da literatura especializada. Para isso, foram adotadas a metodologia qualitativa e a ferramenta de análise de conteúdo de dois trabalhos dos autores já mencionados. Conclui-se que há uma distinção sobre como o medo é incorporado e usado pelos autores e, mais importante, é fundamental entender que, do ponto de vista teórico, ele pode construir política e não apenas destruí-la.Palavras-chaves: Medo. Hobbes. Montesquieu. Paixões. Teoria Política.  AbstractThe article analyzes fear as a fundamental element of Hobbes and Montesquieu's political thought. If fear is used as a tool for obtaining political power, if it is raised as the great aggregating affection around politicians and “new” social movements, understanding the relationship between Political Theory and Fear is fundamental. The objectives of the text are: to present the political conceptions of Hobbes and Montesquieu and what is the role of fear in their respective theoretical political constructions, in the light of specialized literature. For this, the qualitative methodology and the content analysis tool of two works by the authors already mentioned were adopted. We conclude that there is a distinction about how fear is incorporated and used by the authors and, more importantly, it is fundamental to understand that from a theoretical point of view it can build politics, and not only destroy it.Keywords: Fear.
