Resumo: | Dengue is one of the most important infectious diseases in Brazil and is characterized as a public health problem worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), especially in tropical and subtropical regions. This study aims to characterize the epidemiological profile of dengue in the state of Paraíba, from 2001 to 2021, in order to support and support understanding of the reality of the occurrence of the disease in the state. Municipalities should be grouped into health micro-regions and macro-regions defined according to socio-economic and cultural characteristics, taking into account the existence of communication, infrastructure, transportation and health networks. The state of Paraíba is made up of 16 health micro-regions, subdivided into three health macro-regions, which must meet the needs of the municipalities that are part of them. The first macro is João Pessoa, the second is Campina Grande and the third is Patos-Sousa (Sertão, Alto Sertão). For this study, the Mann-Kendall and Pettitt trend tests were applied to verify the behavior of dengue cases by macro-region in the state of Paraíba, João Pessoa, Campina Grande and Sertão/Alto Sertão. Dengue incidence rates in the state per 100,000 inhabitants were 419.6 in 2001 and 401.6 in 2021. The health macro-region with the highest incidence in 2001 was Sertão/Alto Sertão (1,691.6 per 100,000 inhabitants) and in 2021, João Pessoa (615.1 per 100,000 inhabitants). Based on the results obtained, there was a positive trend in the state of Paraíba, especially in the João Pessoa macro-region, which may be associated with urban growth, basic sanitation, especially garbage collection, climatic conditions, inadequate waste disposal, inappropriate water storage, among other factors. However, in the Sertão/Alto Sertão macro-region there has been a decrease in the incidence of cases over the years. |

Spatio-temporal trends in dengue incidence in the state of Paraiba, 2001-2021Tendencias espacio-temporales de la incidencia del dengue en el estado de Paraiba, 2001-2021Tendência espaço-temporal da incidência de dengue no Estado da Paraíba, 2001-2021Dengue is one of the most important infectious diseases in Brazil and is characterized as a public health problem worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), especially in tropical and subtropical regions. This study aims to characterize the epidemiological profile of dengue in the state of Paraíba, from 2001 to 2021, in order to support and support understanding of the reality of the occurrence of the disease in the state. However, in the Sertão/Alto Sertão macro-region there has been a decrease in the incidence of cases over the years.
