Introduction: The Design Science Research (DSR) method proposes conducting studies that present theoretical and methodological rigor, as well as results with practical relevance. With the objective of teaching the method in practice, during the Design Science Research (DSR) discipline of the Graduate Program in Knowledge Management and Organization, at the School of Information Science and the Graduate Program in Built Environment and Sustainable Heritage , from the School of Architecture, both from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, students were challenged to develop an institutional repository as an artifact for the Graduate Program in Built Environment and Sustainable Heritage. Objective: To present an experience of applying the Design Science Research (DSR) method to design a digital repository. Methodology: Design Science Research (DSR). Results: This report on the experience of applying the DSR presents the journey through the stages of identifying and raising awareness of the problem, systematic review of the literature and ideation of an institutional repository based on a journal outlining the process of proposing and designing the artifact. Conclusion: It contributes not only to the presentation of the method in a theoretical and practical way, but also exemplifies its use in the field of Information Science.
