The librarian as manager: the perception of the library students

Resumo: The current socio-political-economic context requires ability of organizations and individuals to manage change, mobilize people, in addition to managing resources to obtain competitive advantage. This way, professionals and companies seeking strategies of management and careers to match this market. With this, universities try to attract students through degree programs in various fields with emphasis on management training. The main objective of the research was to investigate the perception of librarianship students about their training in management and their future performance as manager. To compose the study material, students have developed collages from their remarks and acting as students of the course and as managers in the labor market. It was found that during the study management, students undergo numerous difficulties and constant need for growth. However, students seem to believe that by becoming managers will get professional success, money and material goods. This makes it seem like overwhelming odds that occurred during the study will be worth, due to the promising future we envision. Finally, it notes that the integration of management disciplines enables curriculum innovation relevant to future librarians and contribute to the training of professionals that match the market demand.

Dessa forma, profissionais e empresas buscam estratégias de gestão e de carreiras para corresponder a esse mercado. Com isso, as universidades tentam atrair estudantes por meio de programas de graduação em diversas áreas com ênfase na formação gerencial. O objetivo principal da pesquisa foi investigar a percepção dos estudantes de Biblioteconomia a respeito de sua formação na área de gestão e a sua futura atuação como gestor. Para compor o material de estudo, os estudantes elaboraram colagens a partir de suas observações e atuação como alunos do curso e como gestores no mercado de trabalho. Constatou-se que durante o estudo de gestão, os estudantes passam por inúmeras dificuldades e uma constante necessidade de crescimento. Entretanto, os estudantes parecem acreditar que ao se tornarem gestores irão obter sucesso profissional, dinheiro e bens materiais.
