Book, document and intentionalities: a thematic visualization in brazilian literature in Information Science journals

Introduction: The defense of the argument that the materiality of the book and the document transcends the informational dimension that is strict to its content and its utilitarian character finds – in studies on the attribution of intentionality to objects – a theoretical way to reflect on dimensions of materiality. Objective: To explore studies on the attribution of intentionality to objects as a subsidy to demonstrate aspects of the multidimensionality of the materiality of the book and the document. Methodology: The theoretical framework has contributions from authors who deal with the intentionality attributed to objects within the scope of historiographical, documentalist and phenomenological knowledge, serving as a basis to bring light to the mapping of Base de Dados de Periódicos em Ciência da Informação (BRAPCI). Results: It was possible to observe that the mapped texts treat the book and the document as symbolic objects, with cultural, social, memory values, among others. Conclusion: The different notions of intentionality identified contribute to visualizing the attribution of values by subjects in a social and institutional context, something that helps to observe the dimensions of materiality of objects.
