Openings in space and architectures in time: mental health in the territory

Resumo: This paper discusses territorialization from a conceptual and applied point of view, considering its use in mental health care, especially in primary care. Based on the theoretical-conceptual perspective of cartography, this experience report sought to understand a territory whose population assigned to a family health unit in southern Bahia, Brazil. Field visits were carried out as part of the activities developed by the family health residency program of the Health Department od the State of Bahia (SESAB). The photos taken and selected for this analysis corresponded to two moments regarding space-time. Images named “openings in space” refer to entering the territory and getting to know the organization of geographical and human space; “architectures in time” portray and document symbolic and cultural resistance aspects of those who live there. Imaging cartography is a potent contribution to assist social and health workers working in material and subjective territories.

Este es un informe de experiencia que utilizó la perspectiva teórica y conceptual de la cartografía para conocer un territorio cuya población fue asignada a una unidad de salud familiar en un municipio en el sur de Bahía, Brasil. Se hicieron visitas a personas que viven en el territorio dentro del alcance de las actividades realizadas en un Programa de Residencia de Salud Familiar de la Secretaría de Salud del Estado de Bahía (Sesab). En estos itinerarios se produjeron fotos y se seleccionaron para este texto aquellas que correspondían a dos momentos relacionados con el espacio-tiempo. Las imágenes que llamamos “aberturas en el espacio” se refieren a las acciones de ingresar en el territorio y conocer la organización del espacio geográfico y humano. Por otra parte, las “arquitecturas en el tiempo” retratan y documentan aspectos de la resistencia simbólica y cultural de las personas que viven allí. La cartografía de imágenes representa una contribución poderosa para ayudar a los trabajadores sociales y de la salud que actúan en territorios materiales y subjetivos.Este texto discute o tema da territorialização do ponto de vista conceitual e aplicado, tendo em vista seu uso no campo da saúde mental, principalmente na atenção primária. Trata-se de um relato de experiência que utiliza a perspectiva teórico-conceitual da cartografia para conhecer um território, cuja população estava adscrita a uma unidade de saúde da família, em um município do sul da Bahia, Brasil. Foram realizadas visitas a pessoas que vivem no território no âmbito das atividades desenvolvidas em um programa de residência de saúde da família da Secretaria da Saúde do Estado da Bahia (Sesab). Nesses itinerários foram produzidas fotos e selecionadas para este texto as que corresponderam a dois momentos relativos ao espaço-tempo. As imagens denominadas “aberturas no espaço” referem-se às ações de entrar no território e conhecer a organização do espaço geográfico e humano. Já as “arquiteturas no tempo” retratam e documentam aspectos da resistência simbólica e cultural das pessoas que vivem no local.
