Video Assistant Referee's Effect on Football: Turkish Super League Case

Resumo: Technology is now widely used in sports. One of those technology is video assistant referee (VAR) system. After being officially used in 2018 World Cup for the first time, major leagues started using VAR from the 2018/2019 season. In this study, 94 match weeks played in the Turkey Super League since the 2017/2018 season were analyzed. The present study has two purposes. The first one is to examine the effect of VARs on football statistics. The second purpose is to determine the differences of VAR statistics between two seasons. This study has shown that while goals per game (p<0,05), yellow cards per game, red cards per game was decreased, average match time (second) per game (p<0,05), ball in play time (second) per game was increased after the use of VAR. The second major finding was that the frequency of decisions did not changed per game, and the total count of positions reviewed per game decreased significantly in the second season of VAR system.

Una de esas tecnologías es el sistema de árbitro asistente de video (VAR). Después de ser utilizado oficialmente en la Copa del Mundo de 2018 por primera vez, las grandes ligas comenzaron a utilizar el VAR a partir de la temporada 2018/2019. En este estudio se analizaron 94 semanas de partidos disputados en la Superliga turca desde la temporada 2017/2018. El presente estudio tiene dos objetivos. El primero es examinar el efecto de los VAR en las estadísticas de fútbol. El segundo objetivo es determinar las diferencias en las estadísticas de VAR entre dos temporadas. Este estudio mostró que mientras los goles por partido (p < 0,05), las tarjetas amarillas por partido, las tarjetas rojas por partido disminuyeron, el tiempo medio de juego (segundos) por partido (p < 0,05), el tiempo de juego (segundos) por partido ha disminuido. aumentó después de usar VAR. In questo studio sono state analizzate 94 settimane di partite giocate nella Super League turca dalla stagione 2017/2018. Il presente studio ha due obiettivi. Il primo è esaminare l'effetto dei VAR sulle statistiche del calcio. Il secondo obiettivo è determinare le differenze nelle statistiche VAR tra due stagioni. Questo studio ha mostrato che mentre i gol per partita (p < 0,05), cartellini gialli per partita, cartellini rossi per partita sono diminuiti, il tempo medio di gioco (secondi) per partita (p < 0,05), il tempo di palla in gioco (secondi) per partita è stato aumentato dopo aver utilizzato VAR. Il secondo risultato chiave è stato che la frequenza delle decisioni non è cambiata per partita e il conteggio totale delle posizioni riviste per partita è diminuito in modo significativo nella seconda stagione del sistema VAR.A tecnologia agora é amplamente utilizada no esporte.
