Resumo: This study deals with football in the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Salvador, between the late 19th and early 20th century. Its purpose is to comparatively analyze forms and senses of its arrival, as well as its trajectory, construction and solidification as social practice. We understand that in these localities, football, had a similar trajectory, beginning in the elite, as a practice of "modern" values, but at the same time gained popularity among other social strata, having the same clubs formed in these two spheres. Both in Rio de Janeiro and in Salvador, football, had its trajectory in conjunction with the process of trying to include cities in modernity.

Seu objetivo é analisar comparativamente formas e sentidos de sua chegada, bem como sua trajetória, construção e solidificação como prática social. Entendemos que nessas localidades, o futebol, teve trajetória semelhante, iniciando-se na elite, como uma prática de valores “modernos”, mas que ao mesmo tempo ganhou popularidade entre outros estratos sociais, tendo os clubes se constituído da mesma forma nestas duas esferas.
