Resumo: The present study addresses the most popular media accessed by farmers assisted by Emater/RS-Ascar, in properties of the northwest frontier of RS, and its influence on the decisions-making. There are few initiatives for study, although the media are part of rural daily life. The central objective was precisely to understand through which means the family farmers access information. At the same time, understand the relationship between the form of access to information and the social markers gender, age group, schooling level and income; and inferences were made about the relationship between access to information and access to public policies. Quantitative methods were used, with the application of closed questionnaires, and qualitative, through semi-structured interviews with farmers. The results reaffirm the popularity of radio and the rise of others media, such as the internet. The dialogue was also reiterated in the establishment of bonds of trust that lead to decisions.
