Resumo: In August 1986, social movements and other organizations from the National Campaign for Land Reform created the National Tribunal of Latifundium Crimes (NTLC), giving to the organization Apoio Jurídico Popular the task of holding the people's tribunal. The people’s tribunals are trial experiences not linked to state jurisdiction and dedicated to crimes not recognized or treated unsatisfactorily by the state. Counting on renowned jurists, the TNCL sessions recreated the trial of those responsible for murders triggered by land conflicts. The proposal aims to reconstruct some aspects of the experience of this court through the documentation available in different documentary collections. The memory exercise on the experience of the TNCL is driven by the interest in the relationship between 'law' and 'social movements', assuming the sessions of the people's tribunal as an empirical terrain to reflect on the multiple uses of law in the repertoire of collective actions around of the disputes for the democratization of the State in that context.
