Resumo: With the proposed article, we analyze Antonio Gramsci's intellectual and political formation aspects, considering discuss “socialism and culture” as a theme, specifically circumscribed to his interventions in 1917. It is about understanding his accession process to Marxism, in particular, through Lenin's thought, emphasizing the Russian Revolution's importance for his commitment to translating the Soviet revolutionary experience into Italian particularity. Which has put him in a confrontation with gravitating conceptions in the Italian Socialist Movement full of deterministic and positivist influences, which reflected in positions subject to passivity. Starting his proletarian revolution conception weaving, Gramsci seeks a dialectical unity between politics and philosophy, highlighting the revolution in Italy historicity, for which the alliance between the southern peasants and the northern workers would be vitally important, which presupposed working masses' cultural upliftment work.

Trata-se de compreender o processo de sua adesão ao marxismo, em especial, através do pensamento de Lenin, ressaltando a importância da Revolução Russa para seu empenho na tradução da experiência revolucionária soviética para a particularidade italiana, o que lhe colocou em confronto com concepções gravitantes no movimento socialista italiano carregadas de influências deterministas e positivistas, que refletiam em posicionamentos sujeitos à passividade.
