The application of GIS technology in the definition of urban parameters: the housing characterization of precarious settlements in an educational context

This article presents the experience of using GIS technology in the educational context of the Atelier VI subject of the Architecture and Urbanism course at the University of Fortaleza. With the purpose of defining urban parameters for land occupation for the elaboration of urban and land tenure regularization plans, geoprocessing was used in the study of the housing characteristics of the Caça e Pesca community, located in Fortaleza. The relevance of the topic is due to the importance of working in the classroom on urban and land tenure regularization of precarious settlements through their morphological characteristics. In this sense, the use of georeferencing technologies proves to be beneficial to the systematization of the collected data, approaching the most distinct variables and making the data collection work more in-depth and consistent with the reality found in the study area, which presents relevant differences in terms of in relation to the parameters of occupation of the formal city. To this end, a brief bibliographic review of topics such as the housing issue and georeferencing technologies was carried out, presenting the application of GIS to the discipline through works developed by students and the results of the application of an activity evaluation questionnaire. The material collected was analyzed, highlighting strategies and difficulties encountered in the process.
