PROFESSIONAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL EDUCATION IN BRAZIL IN THE XXI CENTURY: EXPANSION AND LIMITS

Resumo: Law 11.892/2008, which created in Brazil the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education and, composing it were the Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology, whose bases date back to the Artistic Apprentice Schools, created in 1909. In this context, the objective of the article was to analyze the creation and expansion of the Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology. Based on documental analysis, bibliographic and conceptual discussions we discussed the creation and expansion of the Federal Network of Professional, Scientific, and Technological Education, presenting its objectives and analyses, and dealing with the dilemmas and impasses involving the expansion and trajectory of Federal Institutes at the end of the second decade of the 21st century in Brazil. We conclude that the expansion has led to social inclusion and human development in areas of the Brazilian territory that had been marginalized until then, and that limits such as the training of teachers to work in this type of teaching; the practice of a curriculum that integrates high school and professional education are present in the process of expansion of Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology.

Neste contexto, o objetivo do artigo foi analisar a criação e expansão dos Institutos Federais de Educação Ciência e Tecnologia. A partir de análise documental, discussões bibliográficas e conceituais discorremos sobre a criação e expansão da Rede Federal de Educação Profissional, Científica e Tecnológica, apresentando seus objetivos e análises acerca desta e, tratamos dos dilemas e dos impasses que envolvem a expansão e trajetória dos Institutos Federais em fins da segunda década do século XXI no Brasil.
