Student dropout in technical education at high school level: the experience at Macaé Campus of Instituto Federal Fluminense

Resumo: This article presents the results of research conducted at Macaé Campus of Instituto Federal Fluminense (Rio de Janeiro State/Brazil). The information was collected from students who did not finish their technical education at the institution. From references that put social and educational inequalities into question, which consider these problems as interrelated processes, a survey questionnaire was elaborated and sent to students who were dropping out, transferring, suspending, or canceling their enrollment, to get to know their reality and the cause(s) of their early exit from the course. The description and analysis of the main reasons mentioned by them for dropping out are the primary focus of this text.

A partir de las referencias que plantean la problemática de la desigualdad social y educativa, que consideran estas cuestiones como procesos interrelacionados, se elaboró un cuestionario de investigación que se envió a los alumnos en condiciones de deserción, traslado, aplazamiento o cancelación de matrícula, con el fin de conocer su realidad y la(s) causa(s) por la que abandonaron el curso. La presentación y el análisis de las principales razones indicadas por ellos para el abandono son el objeto central de este texto.Este artigo pretende apresentar resultados de pesquisa realizada no Campus Macaé do Instituto Federal Fluminense, na qual foram coletadas informações de estudantes que não concluíram o ensino técnico na instituição. A partir de referências que problematizam a desigualdade social e educacional, que consideram essas problemáticas enquanto processos inter-relacionados, foi elaborado questionário de pesquisa enviado para estudantes em condição de evasão, transferência, trancamento ou cancelamento de matrícula, com objetivo de conhecer a realidade deles e a(s) causa(s) para a saída precoce do curso.
