Culture within the Systemic Functional Linguistics: an exploratory analysis

Resumo: This paper discusses the concept of culture within Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), assuming that this is a key concept to understand how this theoretical approach determined to address language. In this regard, the study that brings its epistemological principles, Language as Social Semiotic, published by M.A.K. Halliday, 1978, is reviewed in search of its Anthropological roots. We list and analyze the utterances in which words are formed with the radical cultur-. The study shows that Anthropology still underlies SFL, but that it has also been sociologically reoriented, a fact that brought theoretical and methodological implications.

Halliday, é relida em busca de sua raiz Antropológica. Foram listados e analisados os enunciados em que ocorreram palavras construídas com o radical cultur-.
