From the tree to rhizome: notes for environmental education in high modernity

Resumo: The concept of Science, originated in the Enlightenment, is marked by a rupture in different spheres. The specialization of the different areas of knowledge and the distance between researcher and his/her object of investigation and between Man and Nature are both materializations of the Positivist project. This is metaphorically represented by a tree and its still branches. The breakdown of this rhetoric, and the emergency of the environmental issue in late modernity point to a scenario where all types of knowledge are interrelated. The rhizome with its webs and interconnections represent this new scientific landscape. Aiming at an environmental educational program, this study has focused on the interpretation of this period.
