Resumo: The purpose of this article is to show that homosexual relationships between inmates go beyond the common sense discourse that these relationships are established merely for the fact that women feel needy. Under menswear are women who want to achieve security and privileges our society reserves exclusively to men. Their passionate speeches and letters conceal symbolic material and interests. Actually, homosexual relations reproduce the gender order as, mostly, male domination. The aim of this study is to identify the factors that lead female prisoners to establish a homosexual relationship with each other when incarcerated, as well as show how the discourse and masculine practices add value and status among the female prison population.

Por baixo das roupas masculinas estão mulheres que desejam segurança e privilégios que a nossa sociedade reserva exclusivamente aos homens. Por trás dos discursos e cartas apaixonadas estão encobertos interesses materiais e simbólicos. Na verdade as relações homossexuais reproduzem a ordem de gênero e principalmente a dominação masculina.
