AmarElo, by Emicida, and O Pequeno Príncipe Preto, by Rodrigo França: music as the first literary contact in literature teaching

This work proposes to understand music as an important didactic resource for the education of children, young people and adults. This is based on the song “AmarElo”, by composer and rapper Leandro Roque de Oliveira, known as Emicida, in dialogue with the children’s book O Pequeno Príncipe Preto (2020), by Rodrigo França, the latter being the first contact after applying musical texts to the literature teaching. That said, we start from the hypothesis that music acts in the formation of individuals. This involves respect for differences, interpersonal experiences, which enables the construction of critical beings, capable of reflecting on their position in the world and the society in which they are inserted. In addition, we outline the following problem: How can music work as an interaction in the classroom, to rescue pleasure and motivation in the pursuit of knowledge, and also for teaching literature? Based on our comparative analyses, in “AmarElo”, Emicida leaves open the discourse of the excluded and the claim for closed cultural spaces in the context of Brazilian blackness. In O Pequeno Príncipe Preto, by Rodrigo França, the book allows all children, young people and adults, black or white, to understand that there is no universal culture and to start to value diversity and plurality more.
