RIO GRANDE DO NORTE’ SCHOOL GAMES: BETWEEN EDUCATIONAL SPORT AND HIGH PERFORMANCE SPORT

Resumo: The article presents the School Games of Rio Grande do Norte (JERN's) to understand if the goals of educational sport are effective in our practice. Four teachers of the state network were interviewed and one representative of a public administration body that performs the games. Although JERNs are thought to fit the principles of educational sport, there is a direction from games to high-performance sports. The principles of sport for the formation of the critical and reflective citizen are distorted by values such as competition, rivalry and training, characteristic of competitive sport. The Government should promote its educational sport policy involving all people of the school environment with a view to making JERNs, effectively, in school games.

Foram entrevistados quatro professores da rede estadual e um representante de um órgão da administração pública que realiza os jogos. Embora os JERN’s sejam pensados para atender os princípios do esporte educacional, há um direcionamento dos jogos para o esporte de alto rendimento. Os princípios do esporte para a formação do cidadão crítico e reflexivo são distorcidos por valores como competição, rivalidade e treinamento, característicos do esporte de competição.
