Resumo: Geomembranes (GMs) are synthetic materials with low permeability (around 10-12 cm/s) widely used as impermeable barriers in landfills and ponds. The evaluation of its performance is made by accelerated chemical compatibility tests. Because these are manufactured in coils, they need seams in general applications. Due to their chemical resistance, polyethylene (PE) GMs are widely used. However, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) GMs also perform well in several applications, mainly in landfills and containment of residues that do not contain hydrocarbons. Because PVC GMs do not have a more detailed study in the technical literature, this work evaluated, by an accelerated test, the resistance of PVC GM seams in contact with   sugarcane (vinasse) and landfill waste sanitary (slurry). Two types of seams (high frequency and chemical fusion) were evaluated in GMs with thicknesses of 1.0 and 2.0 mm. Seams specimens were immersed in stainless steel containers at a temperature of 50º C and, after 2, 4 and 6 months of incubation, these were tested by checking the properties retention (shear strength and peeling) as a function of time exposure. The results obtained indicate that there was variation in the values of the properties considering each type of seaming technique as well as the type of residue. The peeling resistance in the seams made by the chemical fusion technique, for example, showed considerable decreases after the periods of exposure.

Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Rio Grande do Norte2022-12-28info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttp://www2.ifrn.edu.br/ojs/index.php/HOLOS/article/view/1040210.15628/holos.2022.10402HOLOS; v. 8 (2022)1807-1600reponame:Holosinstname:Instituto Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN)instacron:IFRNporhttp://www2.ifrn.edu.br/ojs/index.php/HOLOS/article/view/10402/3616Copyright (c) 2022 HOLOShttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessRocha, Breno PadoveziLodi, Paulo Cesar2023-04-06T23:39:31Zoai:holos.ifrn.edu.br:article/10402Revistahttp://www2.ifrn.edu.br/ojs/index.php/HOLOSPUBhttp://www2.ifrn.edu.br/ojs/index.php/HOLOS/oaiholos@ifrn.edu.br||jyp.leite@ifrn.edu.br||propi@ifrn.edu.br1807-16001518-1634opendoar:2023-04-06T23:39:31Holos - Instituto Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN)false
