Resumo: Starting from the essentiality of water in the maintenance of ecosystems and integration of living beings, it was questioned how the universalization of access to drinking water has been inserted in the agenda of smart cities. Thus, the objective was to characterize the appropriation of the theme in vehicles of scientific and popular dissemination. To this end, a mixed type research was carried out, through an integrative review of scientific articles and journalistic materials. The contents of the texts were categorized in the vectors: objectives, problems, solutions, discussion about water resources and smart cities, ethical conflicts and universal access to drinking water. The management stood out in international and national academic texts and in the media, representing a point of confluence of interests between researchers and society. The perspective of environmental bioethics was evidenced as a tool for deliberations integrating an intelligent structure in favor of the quality of life for all living beings, of this and future generations.

Assim, objetivou-se caracterizar a apropriação da temática em veículos de divulgação científica e popular. Para tal, foi realizada uma pesquisa do tipo mista, através de uma revisão integrativa de artigos científicos e matérias jornalísticas. Os conteúdos dos textos foram categorizados nos vetores: objetivos, problemas, soluções, discussão sobre recursos hídricos e cidades inteligentes, conflitos éticos e universalização do acesso à água potável.
