School Books for Immigrants and Refugee Students in Basic Education: a Proposal Based on Teaching Portuguese as a Welcoming Language

Resumo: Abstract: The current rise in immigrant and refugees registration in the Brazilian basic scholar system has been an enormous challenge for the schools, urging the search for teaching strategies and didactic resources focused on this specific public. On that account, this paper approaches the creation of didactic material for children and teengares that have been through forced migration and are now registered in Basic Education. This study presents a proposal based on the concept of Teaching Portuguese as a Welcoming Language (SÃO BERNARDO, 2016)Nand on the communicative competences developed by Canale and Swain (1980). Built on research-action, the investigation seeks to supply the existing gaps between scientific research and the teaching practice with a textbook related to teaching Portuguese to immigrants and refugees which subsidizes the teaching task, mostly in Ensino Fundamental. Thus it will be possible to contribute to these students' interactions with the school community and their integration into Brazilian society. Keywords: Immigrants and refugees. Basic Education. Portuguese as a Welcoming Language.Resumo: O crescente aumento de matrículas de estudantes imigrantes e refugiados no sistema de ensino brasileiro tem sido um grande desafio para as escolas, impulsionando a busca por estratégias de ensino e recursos didáticos voltados especificamente a esse público. Em vista disso, este artigo aborda a elaboração de materiais didáticos para crianças e jovens, deslocados forçados, matriculados na Educação Básica e apresenta uma proposta baseada na perspectiva do ensino de Português como Língua de Acolhimento (SÃO BERNARDO, 2016) e nas competências comunicativas propostas por Canale e Swain (1980). Pautada pela pesquisa-ação, a investigação busca suprir as lacunas existentes entre a pesquisa científica e a prática docente a partir de um material que subsidie o trabalho dos professores, principalmente do Ensino Fundamental, no ensino de língua portuguesa para imigrantes e refugiados, contribuindo para a aprendizagem desses estudantes, sua interação com a comunidade escolar e sua inserção na sociedade brasileira.
