From the general term to the sum of Gauss: an olympic approach about arithmetic progressions

Resumo: The objective of this work is to approach the arithmetic progression (AP) of first and second order in the context of the Mathematical Olympiads. For this, we will develop the main results involving the APs, such as the properties of the ratio, the expressions for the general and generalized terms and the Gauss sum, in order to apply them in the resolution of Olympic questions. In order to complement this training, we explored the content of second-order APs that is not so addressed in Basic Education. The problems were selected from prominent national and international Mathematical Olympiads, such as the Brazilian Mathematical Olympiad (OBM), the Brazilian Mathematical Olympiad of Public Schools (OBMEP), the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) and the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). During the solutions of these problems, we tried to emphasize the concept worked in order to highlight the importance of this content in the preparation of teachers and students involved with olympic training.

Con el propósito de complementar esta formación, explotamos el contenido de los PAs de segundo orden que no se aborda tanto en la Educación Básica. Los problemas fueron seleccionados de las Olimpiadas Matemáticas nacionales e internacionales, como la Olimpiadas de Matemáticas Brasileña (OBM), Olimpiadas de las Escuelas Públicas Brasileñas (OBMEP), el American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) y la International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). Durante las soluciones de estos problemas, buscamos enfatizar el concepto trabajado para resaltar la importancia de este contenido en la preparación de maestros y estudiantes involucrados con la capacitación olímpica.O objetivo deste trabalho é abordar a progressão aritmética (PA) de primeira e segunda ordem no contexto das Olimpíadas de Matemática. Para isso, desenvolvemos os principais resultados envolvendo as PAs, como as propriedades da razão, as expressões para os termos geral e generalizado e a soma de Gauss, no intuito de aplicá-los na resolução de questões olímpicas. Com o propósito de complementar essa formação, exploramos o conteúdo das PAs de segunda ordem que não é tão abordado na Educação Básica. Os problemas foram selecionados das Olimpíadas Matemáticas nacionais e internacionais de destaque, como a Olimpíada Brasileira de Matemática (OBM), a Olimpíada Brasileira de Matemática das Escolas Públicas (OBMEP), a American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) e a International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
